Starter Anyone??.

So as you all know, Starter has been making a comeback including bringing Jeff Staple onboard as a designer, yet for most of us who rocked it back in the day it’s always been around. Anyhow whilst online recently found these, bags made out of Starter jackets, and know some of you will be claiming - wrong!!, yet still at the same time they’re pretty epic…

The year was 2003.  J Dilla and Madlib had just wrapped up their album Champion Sound, recording as Jaylib, with Dilla then still in Detroit and Madlib doing all his work from his bomb shelter studio in Los Angeles. J Rocc - who would later become the third member of Jaylib, on the turntables for each of the shows the guys did together - put together this mixtape of Dilla, Madlib and Jaylib songs, as well as some of their sources, essentially telling the story of this group.

Soul Alldayer

As you would have seen I recently put up the flyers for the Soul Alldayer which was being held at the Kings Arms and that I was playing at alongside an amazing line-up, well here anyhow here’s a few snaps from the gig which was one of the most amazing days ever. The weather was killer, the music was so good!! and the best vibe from everyone who was there and even got to hang out with DJ Houseshoes (Detroit) who was in town to play a gig that night…

Mos Def - Ecstatic Moments

HVW8 Art & Design Gallery, Union LA & Frolab present a photo exhibition entitled MOS DEF: ECSTATIC MOMENTS. Photographer, filmmaker, visionist Cognito showcases rare performance and behind-the-scenes images captured during the two year journey of making and supporting the June 2009 release of “The Ecstatic” (Downtown Records.)

This special one-week exhibition features candid photographs of Mos Def, including images from visits to the Cape of Great Hope, South Africa, performing in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a powerful series of US Summer Tour “end-of-the-night posse shots” featuring such artists as Jay Electronica, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, and even a surprise guest appearance by the legendary Shuggie Otis. Cognito has also immortalized Mos Def in bright moments from “The Ecstatic” studio sessions with producers Madlib, OH NO, Preservation & Georgia Anne Muldrow. The photographs in this exhibit, soon to be published in book format, are offered by Mos Def to his family, friends and fans in order to share the many “ecstatic moments” he experiences while creating, recording, traveling and performing around the world.
