Help Mira!

Mira

Mira is only 22 years old and has recently been diagnosed with a rare form of melanoma.

It’s an agressive type of cancer, already in an advanced stage. She is our gorgeous friend and we’re doing what we can to help.

On Tuesday 9 February 2010 we’re holding a charity auction to raise money for Mira. I will be performing with my band at the Northern Steamship at this event.

If you can’t make it but you would still like to make a donation please do so here.

THANK YOU!

xx LisaMira

Misty the Cat ^_ _^

Misty is twelve years old. That’s 64 in cat years.

She is fussy, and loves to snuggle - we’re kindrid spirits. She hisses at Jeremy. I’d consider her one of my very dear friends - not sure if you think that’s a little sad, but she seems to know when I’m sad and gives me a wee nudge. She’s actually running towards me right now, as I’ve just put an episode of Curb your Enthusiasm on…(she told me she has a crush on Larry)

This is not Misty, but a cat I met when we played at the Telethon. It lives on a man’s shoulders with a big dog with a big bow for a sidekick.

Ever taught your cat to dance? Embrace it! x

stars in their eyes?

Well, I’m not sure if any of you are in the simon barnett (the presenter, not the fuls blogger) appreciation society on facebook or used to watch face the music..if so you may be a die hard fan of his and watched this years stars in their eyes. i sorta got pressured into going on the show, they needed more people and i got asked to meet the producers and when i turned up they had the piano and cameras ready and asked me what i was singing for them.

i panicked and one lady had an idea of me doing norah jones so i sung a norah jones song, then that was it, i was on the show, off straight away to get my hands measured (?!!)

the show was interesting, i wish i had made an alias of my ‘behind the scenes’ life ,perhaps having 4 kids working in a bakery, who every fornight goes to the local pub to sing karaoke, so i thought ‘why not, i’ll give it a crack’….alas my story was not as interesting, im just a struggling singer songwriter who drinks coffee and plays online scrabble…(game anyone?)

so anyway we filmed the show and i won my heat as norah jones against rod stewart, bonnie raitt, robert plant and gene pitney (who were all pretty awesome).

we then filmed the final and i was up against

aretha franklin, sarah mclachlan, boy george, scott stapp (creed), barry white, david lee roth (van halen), bobby darin and billy idol.

my performance of don’t know why by norah jones…

it was quite amusing watching all the message board comments on the website, one person said it was unfair of a songwriter with professional recordings to enter, (which anyone can do if they max out their overdraft like me!). It was all public voting and in the end Sarah Mclachlan one, so congratulations to her! I wasn’t too upset but would have loved to have won the trip to London :|!!!!!! In the end I’d much rather be known for my own music rather than being an impersonator, but I did get approached by an impersonation agency led by an Austin Powers impersonator asking if I’d be keen to do some shows as Norah Jones, which is pretty funny considering I look NOTHING like her. Think I’ll just stick to being blonde and  playing my humble wine cellar gigs with my awkward inbetween banter with my lovely band.

But of course the best thing about the show was becoming best friends with Simon Barnett. Gotta love those frosted tips!!!

A bit of exciting news…(for me more than anyone else probably)

This Friday night I’m playing with my band at the Dogs Bollix with Side Kick Nick and the Mots. Both are really good bands so I’m looking forward to getting to play alongside them. You should come!!? It’s this Friday (5th December) at the Dogs Bollix, 9pm…

I’m also recording my new EP this week!! It’s been over a year since I have released my first EP and I can’t wait to get recording again. Will update on how progress is coming along…!

Hope everyone is having a lovely week, I am so sleepy, I probably shouldn’t be listening to Boards of Canada if I’m trying to wake up.

Hope you can come Friday! Have to add a cute cat picture…having withdrawls, missing my cat :(

so cute!

Friday?

Friday eh? Almost forgot what day it is. Well, technically now it’s Saturday.

Last night I went to the Wine Cellar to watch Hayden Booth play. He was great. We used to play in a band together, it was called Velez. Ended up losing my car keys and searched all morning, luckily they were in a friends car. I really am scared about how I will be in years to come, I lose and misplace so much it’s ridiculous.

My brother is a music promoter and brought over LA based artist Jeremy Jay today. I had breakfast with them both and ended up playing in his band with Ed from Dictaphone blues on drums. Spent a quick rehearsal learning the tunes and played them at Whammy tonight. Was a fun show but super sleepy now (tis nearly 4am!)

I also had an audition for a commercial today. Don’t know if I did well, hard to tell with those things…..

Must sleep now, long shift at the dueling piano bar tomorrow night, fun but not so fun with nasty RSI.

Night Night ^ . . ^
