For the last week of my Indo trip I was hanging with Kiwi groms Mikey Mallalieu and Alex Dive. As well as shooting photos I shot a bit of video on the side. I was also getting Ren, our 12 year old boat driver, to shoot footy. It took 3 days of training before he managed to hold the camera still and keep the surfers in the frame, but i guess at 20,000rp ($3.50NZ) per session, you get what you pay for?
Here’s a poorly shot and edited little clip of the groms surfing in Bali and Lombok. You can check out some photos and ramblings from the trip on estradaphoto.wordpress.com.

I want to see this movie! Description below ripped off some other website……
At the turn of the millennium, internet pioneer Josh Harris launched an art experiment called Quiet: We Live in Public. He created an artificial society in an underground bunker in the heart of New York City. More than 100 artists moved in and lived in pods under 24-hour surveillance in what was essentially a human terrarium. They defecated, had sex, shared a transparent communal shower—all on camera. On January 1, 2000, after 30 days, the project was busted by FEMA as a “millennial cult.” Undeterred, Harris struck again, this time as his own subject. Rigging his loft with 32 motion-controlled cameras, he convinced his girlfriend to allow him to record streaming video of every moment of their lives from the toilet to the bedroom. The project backfired, his relationship imploded, and Harris went broke.
While trying find the trailer I stumbled accross this funny clip of a crazed Josh Harris fan….

A while back I wrote a post about the many failed artificial reef and wave pool projects around the globe which ASR has been involved with. Well 5 months later I figure one of the 3 readers of my blog must have sent a link to the ASR guys as I have had some lengthy emails and phone calls from them in the past couple of days. Apparently I had some of the facts wrong?
Well I know our local Mount Maunganui community threw over 1.5 million at this project which I’m pretty sure was the asking price for a 100% completed reef that would produce quality surf. The reef was scheduled to be completed 3 years ago. All the money has been spent, and more. I have no idea what percentage of completion the reef is at, and I have no idea if it’s ever going to be finished?

I’ve read plenty of bullshit on the web about how the Mount Reef has been producing great waves, which as I can see the thing from my front yard, I find quite hard to swallow. I thought about writing something about the reef myself, but instead I conducted some brief interviews with some of Mount Maunganui’s most successful and well respected surfers. Have a read and make up your own mind.
To save FULS from defamation lawsuits I posted the interviews up on my photo blog site estradaphoto.wordpress.com

I’m currently dong a lap of the North Island on a sales trip. I saw some cool stuff on the side of the road in my travels so took a few snaps.

I enjoy finding new music and I have a couple of sites I check out regularly. Recently I stumbled across a website called wearehunted.com. At first I thought I’d struck gold. It’s an online music chart which somehow compiles popular tracks people are blogging, twittering, facebooking, myspacing and hyping on forums. You can check out what the most popular 99 songs are for that week or month or tracks that are emerging and give them a listen.
Unfortunately there is a problem, even on the internet the majority of people have shitty taste in music! There’s stupid amounts of remixes, but each time I’ve had a sift through I’ve managed to find one or two new tracks I like. It’s also kinda fun guessing what sort of song you’re going to hear by what the artist looks like.

Gotta love a band that gives away their debut single for free, especially when it’s this good. You can download this track on their website thehundredinthehands.com. For other music tid-bits check out our collective music blog estradalikesmusic.blogspot.com.
