Tonight I watched this video that Alex posted a while back. I may or may not have cried, but it made me reflect on how awesome it is to have a dog. Life sure would be a lot different without my little buddy Rocky. She is available for belly rubs down at Major Toms on weekdays between 4:00 - 5:30pm. Here’s way too many photos of her….

Peace, Love & Podwars photos

Saturday night was super fun at Major Toms. 8 Pod-Jockeys went head to head with a 20 minute set of 1960’s songs. PJ Cazza (Cam Neate) looked to have it in the bag throwing down a solid set of 60’s bangers but it was Dr Funkinstein (Ryan Morrison) who stole the show and the dance floor with the final set of classic late 60’s funk.

Peace, Love & Podwars

The 60’s are coming to Major Toms! This Saturday (23rd January) we are holding the “Peace Love & Pod Wars” event.

The first 8 people to register by emailing majortomsbar@clear.net.nz will lock themselves down a 20 minute time slot to DJ via their ipod. All songs must be from the 1960s and you must must dress in 60’s attire. First pod-jockey starts at 9pm with the winner PJ’n for the last hour and taking home a prize pack from our buddies at Insight and a $100 bar tab at Major Toms, not to mention all the free love from 60’s groupies.

We’ll have some drink specials on the night, but only if you are dressed in 1960’s theme so get hitting those op-shops…..

Major Toms is now open

We finally got Major Toms open on the weekend. Drop by for a beer, we’ll be open everyday over summer except Christmas. 297 Maunganui Road, Mount Maunganui.

Major Toms

Within the next month or so there should be a new bar open in Mount Maunganui called Major Toms. It’s a project that my buddy Jay, my girlfriend Kaz and I are taking on. None of us know shit about the hospitality industry, but we reckon the Mount deserves a decent bar where the bouncer doesn’t tell you to take off your hoody (even though you’re clearly just wearing a jacket with a hood), you can listen to some decent music (not Britney Spears) and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

We’ve got a blog going documenting our progress, which is kinda funny as none of us know anything about building, painting, electrics, demolition etc either. You can check it out on majortomsbar.com.
