ON MY FEET.

On my feet today: Vans Elms X Eric Elms
The thing I like about these shoes is not because it was designed by Eric Elms himself, but because the sihlouette is something of complete difference to what Vans are generally use to using. While the upper being canvas, it still gives it that classic VAns feel and authenticity. I’m not too sure if these are specifically made for skateboarding as the sole is of some what plim and has no cushioning what so ever, but they still look the part.

ON MY FEET.

On my feet today: Nike Dunk Hi AC TZ
I just had to have these, not only because they are TZ product but the simple touch of canvas on a mid cut shoe whilst on a vulcanized sole is gold for me right now. I can match these suckers with anything without being to overboard. Although they sizing is abit small, I had to jump up a size considering how wide my island feet are. These are deffinitely going to be in heavy rotation in my pile of sneakers as I think the more they are worn in, the better they will look. Simple classic take on one of my upmost favourite sneakers of all time, the Nike Dunk.

Fixed Mag Released - Thunder Down Under

So a couple of previous blog posts, I blogged about this bookazine getting released soon, well the wait is over.
I’ve been looking forward to reading this issue simply because it puts us “kiwis” on the map in terms of fixed gear riding and also I wanted to see how much they over used “wonka” in the mag, and they did,ha. But thats all good though, the dude is really raising the bar which is rad.
Anyways, I dont even know if what I am saying makes any fuckin’ sense at all but heres the PDF download link to the online mag - http://static.londonfgss.com/attachments/14941d1252755910-fixedmag4.pdf
Props to Mike Davies for the dope photography, as well as words from Justin Henehan and Frank Liew.

“Personal Effects” By Hiroshi Fujiwara

Sorry for the lame self-promotion here but an item like this simply has to be blogged. I had a quick skim-read today while I was running around mad and this hardcover has some impressive content. I could only imagine the amount of people ticking each page marking them on there “want” list. Here are a few words Frank had to say about the book -
This hardcover, 213 page book catalogues 100 of Hiroshi’s favourite personal items, a rare insight into one of the world’s biggest style icons’ personal collection of… stuff. Flicking through my copy, I found it pretty interesting - and I think a few people might be surprised by some of his selections. The great thing about it is that alongside each item, there is an explanation about why he chose the product. It contains everything from rubber bands, to his favourite ginger ale, to his impressive Patek Phillipe and Rolex collections (Rolex/Cartier Daytona? Ouch.). Reading this book has also answered a lot of nagging questions I’ve had in my head seeing half the things in the Fragment office, but never got around to asking what they were.
The book is bilingual - In English and Japanese. Sold out on honeyee store and shops worldwide.

ToBe Footwear Collection.

So today, I had the benefit of meeting one of the designers and founders of the NZ owned brand To be footwear and I must say, these are definitely something I am putting on the want list for sure. Now your probably wondering Why I say such thing. Well, simply because the choices of material are not only 100% New Zealand Leather, but are of premium quality and top notch craftsmanship. Another thing that draws me attention to things such as this unique brand is the story behind the design. There is nothing worse than purchasing a pair of sneakers with simply no history or design scheme behind it and was good to see why the team at To Be Footwear had simply chosen the stylized sihlouette as well as certain stitching patterns.

I can understand why some people see reminiscence to Common Projects, but there is nothing better than supporting something that is homegrown and that is a lot more accessable pocket wise. While talking to this person, I noticed how good these Canvas Lows looked worn in and I had mentioned that no matter how beat either the canvas or leather sneakers looked, they still had that individualism about them that I liked. I could rant on about how comfy each shoe was on my foot but that can be for you to decide once you purchase a pair.

If some of you know me personally, I normally don’t like to rant on about something if I don’t like it, so its simple to guess why I am ranting on about these.

FIXED MAG Issue #4

Fixed Mag issue #4 will be out next week and is featuring two articles from New Zealand, one on the Auckland Fixed Gear Scene and one on Red Bull Eye In They Sky. Our friend Mike Zombie worked pretty hard on both of the articles with the help from Justin Hanehan, Frank, and a bunch of the other riders from around Auckland. It will be interesting to see how the articles turn out. I’ve always been a fan of these mags not only because they are free, but also because they always contain good rider profiles and write ups.
I even managed to squeeze in on the bottom left of the cover, lol.
I will soon have an update with the link to the issue when they post it up on their blog.

CGK

So, as some of you who don’t know, me and a few of the boys combined all our powers to form a gang. No, not the sort that like to get into pub fights, gang wars or the drug dealing type, but a bike gang/group. I know, it might sound gay to some being in an un-official “gang” but who gives a f_ _ _?
We are all pretty much just a bunch of like-minded individuals, who like to ride bikes, talk bikes, drink beer, fix bikes and did I say drink beer?
“The Chain Gang Kids are a crew of fixed gear enthusiasts originating in the concrete labrynth that is Auckland City, New Zealand.
CGK is a United Nations of sorts, combining people from all facets of life, unified by the passion of riding a simple, humble track bike.
CGK is not limited to coffee shops or velodromes, and consists of riders that trick, commute or just wanna go fast.
So jump on the “hipster” band wagon and enjoy!
